Three-year postdoctoral position in gravitational-wave source modelling at ULB/UMONS
The University of Mons and the ULB Brussels are inviting applications for a three-year postdoctoral position in gravitational-wave source modelling as a part of the theoretical effort required to maximise the science output of the Einstein Telescope. The successful candidate will undertake research as part of a collaboration between UMONS and ULB to model waveforms produced from compact binaries with asymmetric mass ratios under the mentorship of Andrea Campoleoni, member of the Unit âPhysics of the Universe, Fields and Gravitationâ at UMONS and Geoffrey Compère, member of the Unit âTheoretical and Mathematical Physicsâ at ULB.
The ideal candidate will have a track record in at least one of the following research areas: gravitational self-force theory, the relativistic two-body problem, post-Newtonian or post-Minkowskian approximations, black hole perturbation theory, tidal perturbations of compact bodies, environmental effects or beyond-GR effects. The applicants will have, or be about to obtain, a PhD degree in Physics or Mathematics.
Candidates are encouraged to apply as soon as possible. The deadline for full consideration is May 31, 2024. The candidacy shall include a CV, a letter of motivation, a list of publications and two reference letters to be sent to Helene.Kajianis[at]ulb.be with message header âPost-doctoral position in GW modelling at UMONS/ULBâ.
The anticipated start date of the position is October 1st 2024. Applications will be considered until the position is filled. The applicant is expected to spend 25% of his/her time at ULB and 75% at UMONS. Benefits include travel and equipment funds as well as social security.
Informal enquiries may be made to geoffrey.compere[at]ulb.be and andrea.campoleoni[at]umons.ac.be .
